NefretitiM: Tonight on Literary Links we have Maddy Lederman; author of Edna in the Desert. Thank you for joining us tonight. What inspired you to write this book?
Maddy Lederman: I noticed that some teens never look up from their phones. In EDNA IN THE DESERT, Edna spends an entire summer without one. She normally lives like a Kardashian, and she goes through major withdrawal. She meets a cute boy, and she has no idea how to get to know him. She can’t text him emojis or like his posts on Facebook or Instagram.
NefretitiM: How did you come up with the title?
Maddy Lederman: I wanted something that explained the story with an old-world, nostalgic feeling.
NefretitiM: What genre does this book to fit into?
Maddy Lederman: Young Adult, Coming of Age, Teen, Tween, Middle Grade, First Love, Romance, Family… I think that’s it!
NefretitiM: What influenced your interest in writing?
Maddy Lederman: I have always loved stories.
NefretitiM: What is the writing process like for you?
Maddy Lederman: I start early in the morning before I am distracted by errands and chores.
NefretitiM: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Maddy Lederman: Travel!
NefretitiM: What tips or words of encouragement do you have for other writers?
Maddy Lederman: Write a great story and keep challenging yourself to make it better.
NefretitiM: Great advice! Thanks again for coming.
Maddy Lederman: Thanks for having me on your blog! You can find EDNA here:
