NefretitiM: Today on Literary Links we have Jessie Newborn author of Uber Chronicles. Thank you for joining us today. What inspired you to write this book?
Jessie Newburn: I drive for Uber a bit, and I decided that I would write about each and every passenger, about my experience of finding them, greeting them, the conversation, the silence, the good-bye.
NefretitiM: How did you come up with the title?
Jessie Newburn: I did a Facebook contest! Got lots of suggestions from my friends. I had started my blog posts about driving for Uber and named the blog posts Uber Chronicles, so I had that as a base. But as I knew I’d be doing a series, I wanted something that could expand. That’s when I did the Facebook contest. The book is titled, Uber Chronicles: Field Notes from the Front Seat.
NefretitiM: What genre does this book to fit into?
Jessie Newburn: Hmm. I’m not sure. Travelogue, perhaps. I’m up for suggestions if you have a better idea.
NefretitiM: I may not be able to give you a genre, but this book sounds so interesting. What influenced your interest in writing?
Jessie Newburn: I like words. I like clear communication. I like reading. And I’m curious about people. I think those would be the main influences.
NefretitiM: What is the writing process like for you?
Jessie Newburn: I write about my day driving for Uber. There is no protagonist or story line. I come home from driving; I write; I let my work sit for a few weeks; I reread it and edit it … that’s about it!
NefretitiM: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Jessie Newburn: Relax, socialize, read, learn, dance, camp, garden, forage. And a host of other things!
NefretitiM: What tips or words of encouragement do you have for other writers?
Jessie Newburn: You gotta love what you’re writing about because you’ll be looking at those words over and over. And, you’re going to edit it anyway, so just write! Get it out!
NefretitiM: Great advice! Thank you for joining us. Get your copy of Uber Chronicles today!
